Skywalker Wishes Happy Birthday to Dennis Blanchard–Author of Three Hundred Zeroes

“Feliz cumpleano (Happy Birthday),” to Dennis Blanchard, author of Three Hundred Zeroes and enthusiastic program director for the very active Appalachian Trail Club of Florida.

Heck, this is a big day for Dennis. Not only is it his 65th birthday (Hey Dennis, you can hike year-round just on a Social Security check!), but also St. Patrick’s Day. Surely somebody as chronically fun and upbeat as you has some Irish in them. And the way we can all make it even more jolly for you today is to go out and purchase his entertaining Appalachian Trail narrative!

I’m not big on birthday gifts (just ask some of my ex-girlfriends!), but I do have one first edition copy left of my new Annapurna book, and it is on the way to Dennis. Heck, I hope he got some more books on this birthday, given the exciting trip he’s got planned. Dennis and his wife, Jane, author of Women of the Way, are taking a boat next month for Europe to do a five month bicycle trip all over the European continent. Specifically, Dennis will trace the steps of his father who did five parachute landings into combat zones during the Second World War. Sounds like a great trip, and something tells me there might be another book coming out of Dennis sometime soon, covering this trip.

Good luck Dennis. And enjoy what will almost surely be a non-retirement!

Bill Walker is the author of Skywalker–Close Encounters on the Appalachian Trail. He is also the author of Skywalker–Highs and Lows on the Pacific Crest Trail, as well as The Best Way–El Camino de Santiago (2012). Walker, who is nearly 7-feet tall, is currently working on a whimsical book on the subject of height.

  1. Thank you Bill. Great, you’ve sent me a book that I’m certain will convince me I have to take another long walk. I guess that is a good thing, keep adding to the bucket list and always have something to look forward to. Never look back.

Books do make great gifts, they’re affordable, portable, and, for most of us, offer hours of enjoyment from a single gift. I’m really looking forward to your latest adventure.

Readers can find you newest book, Getting High: The Annapurna Circuit in Nepal at this Amazon location (You forgot to give the readers a link!)

Keep up the good work Bill, you are so prolific.
