Every Appalachian Trail book has its place in the book food chain. Skywalker–Close Encounters on the Appalachian Trail is not your typical hiker “how-to” book. In fact, it is as much about what NOT to do. That seems important as well.
Fortunately, because I never had hiked before, I didn’t have any ego to impede me from telling it the way it was. This book should appeal to all but expert hikers. That is actually rare because most hiking books are written by experts, for other experts, in a narrow “hikerese.”

Regarding the price, Kindle works better for everyone. The honest truth is that at that price, the author makes more, the reader pays less, and Amazon pays more. I was slow to see it, but Kindle and e-books are the wave of the future.
