This weekend total of 1,145 Amazon Kindle readers took advantage of a special promotion and uploaded Bill Walker’s two most popular adventure narratives: Skywalker–Close Encounters on the Appalachian Trail and Skywalker–Highs and Lows on the Pacific Crest Trail. These two books have sold consistently well because they are aimed at the non-expert hiker and even the non-hiker. Walker, who is nearly 7-feet tall, had never even spent the night outdoors before embarking on a quixotic thru-hike attempt of the Appalachian Trail. Ultimately, he achieved his objective of arriving at Mount Katahdin in northern Maine before the end of the hiking season. He had lost 33 pounds. On a later thru-hike attempt of the Pacific Crest Trail, he lost 43 pounds.
